Confused about your level?
ABSOLUTE BEGINNER (1.0 – 2.0)
- Never been on a pickleball court, or:
- been on a pickleball court and hit the ball a few times, but have no real idea of what you’re doing!
BEGINNER PLUS (2.0 – 2.5)
- Been on a pickleball court a few times and was given some friendly advice on how to play, or:
- took an introductory course of instruction from pickleball instructor(s).
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL I (2.5 – 2.75)
- Took an introductory course, maybe hit a few drills, and/or have played 10 to 20 games since then, and:
- understand scoring and basic structure of the game
- able to demonstrate ready position and shuffle step
- able to successfully hit intended shot about 4 out of 10 times, including: straight and cross-court dinks and serves and serve returns.
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL II (2.75 – 3.0)
Should have all the skills of Intermediate Level I, plus played a minimum of 30 games and/or taken lessons, and able to successfully hit shots 5 out of 10 times, including:
- volley at NVZ (kitchen line)
- forehand and backhand ground strokes
- drop shot(s) from transition zone and back of court
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL III (3.0 – 3.5)
Should have all the skills of Intermediate Level II with a higher level of consistency in all shots, i.e. a minimum of 5/10 successful attempts at every Level II skill, and:
- understands when, from where, and how, to hit a lob, lob return, and overhead.
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL IV (3.5 – 3.75)
Should have all skills from Level III, with a higher level of consistency in all shots, i.e. a minimum of 7/10 successful attempts at every shot, and:
- controlled volley exchange at the NVZ
- Placing all shots with purpose and accuracy
- understanding “position over power”
- improved playing strategy with partner
