Harriet Johnston

Level 1 IPTPA coach

Private, semi-private and group lessons

I started playing pickleball in 2018; I have been a Level 1 IPTPA instructor since March 2023. I have been a mentor for novice and beginner pickleball sessions, and I’ve worked as an assistant coach for series of beginner and intermediate group lessons with IPTPA level 2 instructors for my local pickleball club since 2020. Since this time, I have also supported many players as an assistant coach for introductory pickleball sessions with children, youth, and adults of all ages. This has included Special Olympics athletes with intellectual disabilities and individuals with developmental and neurological disorders (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down syndrome, Parkinson’s Disease.) I have also taught private lessons for small groups who need an introduction to the sport.

As a Registered Psychologist in Calgary for over 25 years, I have experience with children, teenagers, and young adults with a wide range of disabilities. This gives me great confidence and skill in my ability to adapt my pickleball coaching and bring out the best in a wide range of students, even those without a sports background.  Pickleball is truly inclusive, and I believe everyone, regardless of skill, can find their place in this sport with acceptance, guidance, patience, kindness, and humor. It is my mission to be a positive ambassador for pickleball and to give those newer to pickleball a strong foundation for this sport.
